About

The Children’s Garden is an educational garden demonstrating how food can be grown and enjoyed fresh in Ottawa. Our goal is to connect all people, and especially children, to fresh food and how it is grown, and to be a community hub where people gather. If you have a community group, family outing or special event and are looking for a venue, we would love to host! Our Garden Manager can be on hand to show you what’s growing, what’s ready to eat and to answer any questions you have on a variety of topics including gardening, plants, beneficial insects and how things grow. We look forward to welcoming you!

Who keeps the garden alive?

The Garden is maintained by a group of volunteers, led by the summer manager and the OCG Committee.  We welcome and rely heavily on volunteers in the community to help us in the garden from May through October. If you are interested in joining the Committee or volunteering in the garden or wish to receive the weekly emails with the garden news and events, please contact us at [email protected].

**Donations** can be made in person during the garden days or via e-transfer at ottawachildrensgardeninfo@gmail.com. Donations will be spent on supplies such as seeds or tools or larger projects to improve the Garden. Currently, the Garden is raising funds for three additional arch trellises to add in Spring of 2024. These large trellises cost about $200 each and will be used to grow large vining plants such as watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkins, and other winter squash.

Who may visit the garden?

The garden is managed by the Ottawa Children’s Garden Committee and is located in a city park, open to the public. Anyone may visit the garden. If you wish to hold an event or gathering in the park, you do not need to reserve the park, but we encourage you to reach out at [email protected] if you would like the garden manager to be present to talk about the garden, what we grow, and how it is grown.

We encourage all visitors to taste the new and the familiar produce grown in the garden and recommend that you visit on a garden day to meet the garden manager and learn more about what we grow. You can also reach us on Facebook (Children’s Garden) and Instagram (ottawachildrensgarden).
